Breadmaker Pizza Recipe

Using a breadmaker to make the pizza dough reduces the effort and stress of preparing pizzas – whilst the base itself tastes much fresher and lighter than many shop bought bases.

Breadmaker pizzas are also a great way of encouraging children to eat allotment grown vegetables like onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, peas, and sweetcorn. Topping the pizzas can be a fun shared family experience.

Ingredients – Breadmaker Pizza Recipe

For the pizza base:

  • Half a teaspoon of yeast
  • 300g of white flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 170ml of water
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

Toppings can be anything you like, but for our video we used:

  • Double concentrated tomato paste
  • Red onion
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Anchovies
  • Sweetcorn
  • Green pepper
  • Mushrooms

We suggest making two pizzas for a family of four, and serve with a side salad.

Preparation time is approximately 1 hour for the bases (and 2+ hours to rise), following by a further 30 minutes decoration and cooking time.

A delicious base to a pizza can transform its taste, and making the dough in a breadmaker is an easy and stress free way to achieve this. Simply add all the ingredients to the bread pan, a task that takes approximately five minutes, and in under an hour you will have a lovely dough that simply needs to be rolled out.

Roll out the pizza base so it is approximately 9 inches or 30 centimetres in diameter, and about 0.5 centimetres deep. We roll the dough out on greaseproof paper, as after cooking the pizza simply slides off with no sticking.

For a really light, bread like texture to the base, the trick is to leave the base to rise. A warm kitchen is ideal, an airing cupboard even better. The cooler the room, the longer the base will take to rise. The target is for the pizza base to double in height.

The next stage is to add the toppings. A really thick tomato sauce helps to stick the other toppings to the base. If you plan to add meat, we suggest you cook the meat first before adding to the pizza.

Once all the toppings are prepared, cooking time is approximately 15 minutes in a fan over at 200 degrees. Keep a close eye on the pizza so that the base does not overcook and become too crunchy.
